Apple Could Add Authentication To AirPods
Is there a security risk when information technology comes to the AirPods? On a very pocket-size take chances, there is always the possibility that someone could swap ane of their AirPods for yours, in which they will then exist able to heed in on your phone calls and conversations, or fifty-fifty use it to control Siri on your iPhone.
It feels like a very unlikely scenario, but it could happen, so much so that Apple is actually looking into creating a user hallmark organization for futurity AirPods. This is co-ordinate to a patent discovered by Patently Apple in which Apple could introduce some kind of authentication system to ensure that the person wearing the AirPods is indeed the owner.
According to the patent, "For example, various characteristics of the user'south ear provide an echo of the ultrasonic signal which is unique to the user. Variations in the surface of the user's ear culvert may cause the ultrasonic point to reflect off the surface and generate an echo having a signature that is associated with the user. For case, a user having a larger ear culvert may result in an echo having a longer reverberation time than a user having a smaller ear culvert."
It sounds like a very sophisticated arrangement merely could be a good way to deter thieves from stealing AirPods or from people who detect AirPods left behind to claim it equally their own. Whether or not this is a system Apple will actually implement into hereafter AirPods remains to be seen.
